چکیده

In this work we consider a new efficient IMplicit Pressure Explicit Saturation (IMPES) scheme for the simulation of incompressible and immiscible two-phase flow in heterogeneous porous media with capillary pressure. Compared conventional IMPES schemes, is inherently physics-preserving, namely, algorithm locally mass conservative both phases it also enjoys another appealing feature that total velocity continuous normal direction. Moreover, unbiased regard to two saturations are bounds-preserving if time step size smaller than certain value. The key ideas include Darcy flows rewritten formulation based on an auxiliary referring as potential gradient, discretized conservation equation obtained by summation each phase. upwind strategy applied update explicitly, mixed finite element methods used solve pressure–velocity systems which can be decoupled. We present some interesting examples demonstrate efficiency robustness algorithm.

The gradient flow structure for incompressible immiscible two-phase flows in porous media

We show that the widely used model governing the motion of two incompressible immiscible fluids in a possibly heterogeneous porous medium has a formal gradient flow structure. More precisely, the fluid composition is governed by the gradient flow of some non-smooth energy. Starting from this energy together with a dissipation potential, we recover the celebrated DarcyMuskat law and the capillar...

Numerical simulation of two-phase immiscible incompressible flows in heterogeneous porous media with capillary barriers

We present a new version of the sequential discontinuous Galerkin method introduced in [25] for two-phase immiscible incompressible flows in heterogeneous porous media with a discontinuous capillary field. Here, a new implementation of the extended interface condition, that does not use the threshold saturation value at the interface and permits treatment of different residual saturations in di...

A New Approach for Constructing Pore Network Model of Two Phase Flow in Porous Media

Development of pore network models for real porous media requires a detailed understanding of physical processes occurring on the microscopic scale and a complete description of porous media morphology. In this study, the microstructure of porous media has been represented by three dimensional networks of interconnected pores and throats which are designed by an object oriented approach. Af...

Stochastic Analysis of Immiscible Two-Phase Flow in Heterogeneous Media

We present a stochastic analysis of immiscible two-phase flow ~Buckley–Leverett displacement! in heterogeneous reservoirs. Since the detailed spatial variabilities of reservoir properties such as permeability and porosity cannot be described deterministically, both permeability and porosity, or either, are treated as random space functions. In turn, water saturation and oil production rate are ...

The effect of capillary forces on immiscible two-phase flow in heterogeneous porous media

A selection of these reports is available in PostScript form at the Faculty's anonymous ftp-Abstract We consider the one-dimensional two-phase ow including capillary eeects through a heterogeneous porous medium. The heterogeneity is due to the spatial variation of the absolute permeability and the poros-ity. Both these quantities are assumed to be piecewise constant. At interfaces where the roc...
